Comeback Daniil Medvedev Claims First Trophy in Nearly 30 Months
19 of Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been earned on hard surfaces
A comeback Daniil Medvedev won his first title for nearly 30 months with victory over opponent Moutet in the competition final.
Medvedev, a former number one, has experienced a challenging period, winning just a single victory at the big events and suffering a setback at the US Open.
The player's varied form on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his service game in particular - caused him falling of the world's top 10 and ultimately splitting with former coach his previous coach.
Presently collaborating with his coach and his other coach, Medvedev has gradually progressed in the recent weeks - climaxing in a closely contested competitive win over challenger Corentin Moutet.
This represents Medvedev's first title following the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hardcourt after that period of that year.
The win also indicates he has won 21 titles at twenty-one various tournaments.
"It's the first time I am participating in a event with my children at once, so to win a trophy is really nice," commented ranked player Medvedev.
"This championship is in tribute of my younger daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I got when my older daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."
The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his last six title deciders, including in that event in the past months.
The player's retrieving play style and regular emotional displays on court had caused observers to question if his capacity to perform at the top level was finished.
But the player has made changes in the past month, attempting to advance forward and compete positively, backed up by an improved serving game.
Medvedev recovered from a deficit in the first set against the difficult Frenchman, taking 4 of the final five games to take the lead.
The pair traded breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, attempting for his first tour championship, seized the initiative to force a decider.
He saved four early chances in a competitive deciding set before the Russian broke to fifteen to secure the win.
Appropriately, he clinched victory with a shot at the front of the court, with the Frenchman failing to handle a volley after a lengthy match.
